It all began with an organic tortilla chip. The founders of Maggie’s Organics were originally in the food business when a farmer suggested planting cotton to improve the quality of the corn. With that, the cotton yielded a crop and, after learning about harsh cotton cultivating techniques, they began making socks using the organic cotton. As they expanded and learned more about the apparel manufacturing business, they decided to set upon an alternative path to production by creating the first worker-owned cooperative to gain Free Trade Zone status. In addition to organic socks, they also manufacture organic cotton scarves, tights and more.
